Tennis tiebreaks: points, games and match formats

A tiebreak score is a count of points within a scoring procedure, not a list of extra ordinary games.

Separate two scoreboards

A conventional set displayed as 7–6 contains thirteen games. Its tiebreak point score may be shown in brackets. Those bracketed points do not turn a 7–6 set into a much larger ordinary games total.

A match tiebreak is another case

A deciding match tiebreak is a different format choice. Do not assign its points a games-total value without the bookmaker’s rule. The score format should be known before calculating a handicap.

Source and contract

World Tennis publishes scoring rules and approved alternatives. Those rules explain the sporting result. Bookmaker conditions determine the settlement of a specific bet, including interruptions and special formats.
