Whole-game and half-game tennis totals are different contracts

A difference of half a game can look minor next to two decimal prices. In a tennis totals comparison it changes whether an integer final game count can land exactly on the line. The line is therefore part of the contract, not a formatting detail to remove from a feed.

Take a completed hypothetical match ending 6–4, 7–5. The first set contains ten games and the second contains twelve, making twenty-two games in total. Over 21.5 is above its line, while over 22.5 is below its line. Both markets might have been offered on the same match, but they ask different questions.

A line of exactly twenty-two raises a separate issue. The score is equal to that number. Many market designs include a refund when a whole-number line is met, but the actual settlement must come from the bookmaker’s terms. Do not convert equality into a win simply because the display says over, or assume the same treatment for a differently structured total.

The decimal price still matters, but only after the line and settlement rule have been matched. A larger price at 22.5 is not a direct improvement over a smaller price at 21.5. The harder threshold is one reason the prices can differ. A comparison that hides the line creates an apparent bargain by deleting the condition that explains it.

Keep period information as well. Twenty-two games across a complete match is not the same market as a first-set total or one player’s games. A named-player total requires the participant. A combined total requires both players’ ordinary games. Replacing either with a generic label such as tennis odds makes the record less useful.

Special formats and incomplete matches remain outside this simple example. The bookmaker may have specific rules for deciding match tiebreaks, retirements or changed formats. An official score does not by itself establish those rules. Record the relevant contract and source date instead of borrowing another operator’s explanation.

For an honest display, retain the numeric line exactly as received and keep its original operator. Historical capture time is also essential. Comparing similar-looking prices collected on different days does not establish which bookmaker currently offers the better terms. The practical task is to compare complete contracts before comparing their numbers.
